A detox diet is a diet where the individual makes a complete change in their consumption habits so that the body gets detoxified by removing toxins and contaminants. With a detox diet, it is possible to improve health, energy, digestion, mental state, your resistance to disease and even experience weight loss.
The modifications that you have to make in detox diet includes fasting with juice fasting and water fasting, increasing the consumption of fish like salmon, restriction in calorie intake and using a herbal detox or master cleanse called the lemonade diet. Most important, a detox diet calls for more of fruits and vegetables in one’s food intake, limitations in processed food and the elimination of alcohol and smoking.
The main reason people go on a detox diet is because a human body ingests lots of water, food and air in a day. It is very possible that fat soluble chemicals existing in them get deposited in the cells of the body. With a poor diet, the human body cannot detoxify these chemicals and this leads to a further build up of toxic waste in the body which in turn leads to illnesses, hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies and a weak metabolism.
Once you go on a detox diet, you tend to experience improved energy, have regular bowel movements, find an increase in concentration and clarity in life, improvement in your digestion and clearer skin. However before you go on a detox diet, it is better that you consult with your doctor to see if the detox diet is appropriate for you. Nursing women, children and pregnant women should never go on a detox diet. People with anemia, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, cancer, low blood pressure and with additions to drugs and alcohol should not go on a detox diet unless advised by the doctor.
Like all good things in life, a detox diet too has its side effects of which the most common one is a headache that starts within a few days of the start of the detox diet. This is often due to the sudden quitting of caffeine. This is why practitioners often suggest a gradual stopping of caffeine instead of a sudden stop. In fact, some people take time off for a detox diet or start it on Friday night to last the weekend.
Some people go through a bout of diarrhea because of dehydration and a loss of electrolyte while there are some people who increase their fiber intake, but don’t drink sufficient water. This in turn leads to constipation. Prolonged use of a detox diet can lead to a deficiency of nutrients, especially proteins and calcium as some detox diets omit animal products.
Other side effects of the detox diet include acne, weight loss, hunger, irritability and tiredness. If you find any worsening of these symptoms when on a detox diet, it is advised to visit a qualified health professional immediately. You never know if these symptoms had arisen because of the detox diet or because of some other underlying cause as the symptoms of some diseases like cancer similar to the side effects of a detox diet.
SUMMARY:
Detox diets are very helpful in ridding the body of all the chemical and toxic waste that enters the body through the water, food and air that you use everyday. The benefits of a detox diet will be realized only by those who have done a detox diet.

When your energy levels are very low, your body aches and your mind is drained, it is time to detox your body. Detoxification mostly involves blood cleansing by way of eliminating impurities from the blood in the liver, through kidneys, lungs, intestines, lymph and skin.
How to detox your body:
First, you must decrease toxins in your body. You need to reduce cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, eating foods with refined sugars and saturated fats. Next, you should reduce the use of personal health care products such as toothpaste, shampoos, deodorants and cleansers as well as chemically-based household cleaners.
There are lots of ways to detox your body and you should select those that suit your lifestyle and preference.
- Juice fasting involves drinking only fresh fruits and vegetables such as carrot, spinach, celery, cabbage, apple, pineapple and cranberry (no citrus fruits). Duration of juice fasting is typically one to three days.
- Water fasting means that only water is consumed. This way your digestive tract and organs rest completely and toxin build-ups are eliminated.
- Change your diet. Include in your daily diet whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables instead of packaged and fast foods that are rich in fats and sugar.
- Use sauna as a regular part of detox. It is a fantastic way of removing chemical buildups in fat cells.
- Skin brushing removes old skin cells, stimulates the lymph system and draws out toxins through the skin. You should use a dry skin brush made of soft vegetable bristles. Before you take a shower, lightly brush your feet in circular motion towards the chest area for 2 minutes.
These are just a few cleansing methods that will improve your health. It is vital to know the different ways on how to detox your body before you start with the different programs.
However, there is a much faster and simpler way to detox your body. You can achieve the detoxification while sleeping or working. If you want to learn more about the best method of achieving a cleaner body click here: Full Body Detox.

juice fasting is a type of Home body detox where an individual only consumes juice created from both fruits and or vegetables. This method is commonly used to clean out organs in the body that have piled up contaminants and toxins. I personally like to juice fast because it leaves me feeling more energized and ready to take on my day.
A juice fast is usually associated with a Home Body Detox, in order to stimulate health considering less energy is required to digest food while juice fasting. Because of this, the body can focus its resources on expelling toxins that have built up over time. Because toxins can accumulate in various parts of the body, certain juice fast diets target specific areas of the body. Some juice fast diets target the kidneys, liver, urinary tract, and even the skin. The immune system and the brain can also be cleansed by juice fasting, which will leave you healthier and feeling better than ever.
In addition to cleaning out certain organs, juice fasts have many other benefits. Some perform a juice fast for religious purposes, while others may do it just to lose some weight. Juice fasting can also help to kick a bad habit, such as smoking, over eating, or even an addiction to caffeine. Juice fasting is also an alternative medicine practice, used for illnesses ranging from depression to cancer.
A Home Body detox diet can vary in the amount of time it is practiced, and some people even indulge in week long fasting periods up to two times a year. Some perform monthly juice fasts that last only a couple of days, while others actually make a vacation out of it and travel to exotic locations like Thailand. I like to fast once or twice a year, since it takes about six months for toxins to accumulate in the blood stream.
Most fruits and vegetables do not contain fiber in the juice form, so it is sometimes necessary to stimulate certain organs in order to stimulate waste. Some fasters use ****** to speed up the process, while others take an herbal or saltwater laxative to help with stimulation. One method that works great at stimulating the colon and intestines to expel waste is to include psyllium husks in the juicer, since they are able to create enough bulk to make enough waste to stimulate the necessary organs. I personally like to take a supplement with fiber, because it gives your body everything it needs to function normally.
There are many different fruits and vegetables that offer great health benefits, but not all of them work during a juice fast. Certain greens work great in a juicer, such as parsley, kale, and spinach. Broccoli and cabbage also work great, and can add a unique flavor to the juice. Some root vegetables, such as sweet potatoes and carrots work great in juice fasts, since they offer great nutritional value and also taste great. Grapes, apples, and citrus fruits offer a great amount of juice, and can sweeten up your juice fasting experience. Spearmint, peppermint, ginger, and green onion are a few of the herbs that taste great in juice, along with wheatgrass, fennel, and even basil. I personally love carrots and citrus fruits, because they have a tart yet sweet flavor.
Juice fasts do not have any negative side effects, so long as the individual fasting is taking care of their body. Even though juice from fruits and vegetables provides our body with various vitamins and minerals, it is sometimes necessary to also include a multivitamin to give the body everything it needs. As long as the body is getting everything it needs to function, juice fasting can provide the body with great benefits relating to health.

Leroy Fong asked:
A juice detox is very similar to a juice fast with one essential difference. You continue to eat certain foods while you drink your juices. Many of you may be thinking that this therefore constitutes a normal detox diet but it doesn’t – the majority of what you ingest over the specified timeframe is simply fruit and vegetable juice but occasionally, generally towards the end of the detox, small amounts of food are also allowed.
This type of detox is great for those of you who are trying detox for the first time. A juice detox offers all the benefits of a juice fast i.e. it quickly eliminates toxins from the body and gives a great feeling of well being, but it is made that little bit easier because of the food allowance.
Basically many juice detox programmes consist of a semi-fast which is based on a fruit and vegetable juice fast with whole fruit, raw vegetables and a few nutritional supplements thrown in as well.
A good example of a juice detox is as follows:
Day 1 – drink freshly squeezed fruit or vegetable juice every four hours. If you feel thirsty in between juice drinks you can have filtered water or herbal tea as an extra drink. Day 2 – as day one but you can add up to 1lb of grapes and three bananas. Day 3 – as day two plus a serving of raw vegetables and another fruit choice. Day 4 to 7 – as day three plus a mixture of whole grain cereals, beans, nuts and seeds. This is essentially a detox diet based around juice.
Alternatively, you may want to drink your fruit juices throughout the day and have a bowl of clear vegetable broth in the evening. The length of time you remain on the juice detox is entirely up to you however it is not advisable to continue for more than a week or two at most.
A juice detox is a great way to start off your detoxing career or for those of you who are veterans of the diets then this is a fantastic little fill in between those 30 day fasts. Either way the benefits will be felt within days of your first juice drink and they will continue to be felt for months after you finish.

There are many options available when it comes to body detox systems.
With so many options, it can be hard to know which one will work best for you.
The good news is that there are plenty of options to fit every lifestyle and body type. Or instead of choosing just one system, you can customize a plan to fit your needs by taking some of the finer points from several different plans.
Some popular choices for detox systems are.
• saunas
• colon cleansing
• detox baths
• herbal detox
• juice fasting
• minimal eating
• water fasting
Some systems and programs come with pre-made plans, pills, pre-packaged juice or drink, and more. Others instruct you on making your own drinks or liquid foods, or water fasting and other calorie-restricted diets.
Reading about these different programs can help you decide which one will work best for you.
Detoxification programs can last for varying amounts of time, from one day to two weeks, depending on which one you choose. The longer ones are more “total body” and involve other steps besides diet.
Some include body massage, sking brushing, breathing techniques, journaling exercises and more.
Many of the most popular programs include liquid diets such as juice or water fasts. During this fasting period the juice and/or water is the only thing you are supposed to eat or drink.
Other popular programs involve different ways of cleansing the colon.
A famous body detox plan is Stanley Burroughs’ famous “Lemonade Diet”. It was also known as the Master Cleanser and involves drinking only lemonade for a period of time.
The “Hawaiian Colon Cleanse” is also popular, and there are many others that are inexpensive and easy to use.
By investigating different ways to detoxify the body, you can select the one you feel fits you best and gives you the greatest benefit.
