Because of this growing awareness, millions of people are now eagerly embracing different alternative medicine practices, better diet, and regular exercise in their attempt to improve their health. One of the most popular changes in favor of fitness being adopted by these people is the switch to the vegan detox diet.

The Vegan Detox Diet

The vegan detox diet is formulated to enable your body to cleanse itself of the toxins which have accumulated in its tissues over the years. Bu eliminating meats from yurt diet, the vegan detox diet is though to save your system from having to cope with toxins and pollutants which can cause several diseases including colon cancer. The usual vegan detox diet will have you eating a wide variety of fresh organic fruits and veggies, nuts, whole greens other than wheat, and cleansing herbs. You may find a vegan detox diet which included organic dairy products, but this is highly unlikely because dairy products acidify the body’s normally alkaline pH balance.

The vegan detox diet, however, is not without its critics. Most vegan detox diets last no longer than twenty-one days, and their short term cleansing effects will not continue without a permanent change in the dieter’s eating habits.

One Expert’s Opinion

Dr. Peter Pressman of the University of Southern California claims that a twenty-one day detoxification diet can actually be harmful rather than beneficial. He also claims that neither the vegan detox diet not any other diet can quickly cleanse the body of accumulated toxins, and that by trying to force these substances from your body will tax your elimination organs beyond their normal capacity. Dr. Pressman says that healthy detoxification requires consistent and committed changed over a long period if the benefits are to last.

That said, there are dozens of detox programs and detox diets from which to choose, and many of them are nothing but empty promises. They will claim to be able to eliminate all sorts of toxin-related ailments, but if you fall for one of them the only thing which will be cleaned out is your wallet.

You can safeguard against becoming another victim of unscrupulous detoxification gurus, simply by taking the time to research any detoxification program, vegan detox diet or otherwise. Learn what is required of each one and decide for yourself whether it is a regimen with which you can live, and then check it out with your personal doctor.

Know going in what the nutritional shortcoming of the vegan detox diet are, and take the necessary nutritional supplements. And don’t stay on any detoxification program for a day longer than the recommended time. There is new miracle detox program every month, so find one that makes nutritional sense, and stick with it.

Starting Your Detox Program

Though life has admittedly become more comfortable because of technology and a barrage of scientific discoveries, we are not as aware about their negative effects on our bodies as we should be. Almost everything we eat and drink has been compromised in one way or the other; be it through using so many preservatives or injecting it would synthetic vitamins and minerals. We now have thousands of chemicals for everything – to cleanse our water, to enhance the flavor and extend the shelf life of our food, to maintain our gardens, to shine our furniture and to keep the moisture in our cosmetics. Much of these chemicals are admittedly carcinogenic, but little or no clamor more has been made to remove them from the market. It is no surprise why so many of us know somebody who is suffering from some kind of cancer or a disease that did not use to exist 10 years ago.

Western medicine has not helped in increasing awareness for this very important process. A lot of people still think of detoxification as something you do to withdraw from drugs and alcohol. But in the East, detoxification is very much a part of everyday life and is looked upon as a necessary evil towards maintaining good health and vibrant demeanor.

While science teaches us that our body cleanses its own organs every few months by renewing its cells, our bodies still need to help. Our liver and gastrointestinal tracts are responsible for cleansing our bodies, but obviously, they cannot sustain this cleansing for very long without breaking down. They still get overwhelmed, which is why a liver cancer and colon cancer are the top diseases in the Western world. When someone suffers from a disease in either of these organs, the usual approach is to bombard them with even more medication. Sometimes this can do more harm than good. Also remember that toxins and other “innocent” chemicals are absorbed by the body in more ways than one. While we may eat food contaminated with chemicals and preservatives, we also absorb toxins from the air we breathe, from the lotions we use, from the hair dye that we apply and from the depression that we suffer. We need to filter this constant barrage of harmful chemicals and toxins periodically. We need to take in vitamins, minerals, fiber and all the other enzymes to boost our immunity and help our body repair itself.

We run the risk of being unwitting victims to this chemical overload. The good news is that lately, more and more people have become more health-conscious and now are turning to organic products and food. Yet we still have to cleanse our bodies from the load we had put it through, thus the need for detoxification and cleansing every now and then. Telltale signs that show that your body’s detoxification system is having trouble are usually the following: precedence of rashes or itching, allergies and coughing, irritability and depression, intermittent headaches, a general feeling of weakness, muscle fatigue and an upset stomach. Other symptoms include foul-smelling stool, diarrhea or constipation, acid reflux, or heartburn. All these symptoms strongly indicate a growing sensitivity of your liver or GI tract to a certain chemical or additive. If you find that you do suffer from any of these symptoms, consult a doctor or gastroenterologist. They may ask you to perform a fast or to take some laxatives. These may work but only in the short-term. If you do decide to perform a detox, do some research first. There are many programs out there that will aid you in beginning your detox program. Once you get started and you feel the healthy benefits of the program you’ve selected, make sure you are well able to keep it up and you integrate it into your lifestyle.

Colon Detox

The colon is the integral organ responsible for flushing toxic wastes from the body. When the colon is cramped with toxins, it becomes a major factor in food intolerance, chronic ill health, and malnutrition. The colon functions are generally hampered because of diet, stress, drugs, chemicals and parasites.

Colon detox plays an integral part in the removal of build up of toxins and mucus in the colon. It assists the natural balance of advantageous and disadvantageous bacteria. It also helps in the proper absorption and production of vitamins and enzymes.

It tries to prepare additional mucus. This mucus binds with the sludge from refined foods like white flour products and builds up on the walls of the bowls. It narrows the lumen and reduces the absorption of vital nutrients. This layer of hardened ***** is a perfect place for harmful organisms and bacteria to breed.

A proper cleansing of the colon helps reduce food intolerance, cellulite, and weight. It also improves skin appearance and energy. Colon detox also helps in enhancing the immune function.

Toxins and bad bacteria are cleansed while detoxifying the colon. A clean colon is instrumental in helping the body absorb the nutrients and enzymes from the food intake, which is very helpful for the digestive system.

There are two ways of colon detox, a nutritional diet and a colon cleanse. A diet high in fibers is generally suggested. Also, an increase in intake of fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and legumes helps in the process. Specially, fruits like apples, grapefruit, oranges, broccoli, and carrots, which are rich in soluble fiber are beneficial. These fruits help the food move faster through the digestive tract, decreasing the ability of carcinogens in the diet to manifest and therefore lead to colon cancer.

In a colon cleanse, four or seven gallons of filtered and temperature regulated water is infused into the rectum via a tube. This process is said to soften and flush the waste from the human body. Though this process is helpful for treating occasional constipation, it is said that it is more harmful than advantageous if undertaken on a regular basis. Frequent colon cleansing can create a dependency and also weaken the large intestine.
